Welcome to our website! As we have the ability to list over one million items on our website (our selection changes all of the time), it is not feasible for a company our size to record and playback the descriptions on every item on our website. However, if you have a disability we are here to help you. Please call our disability services phone line at 518-465-3373 during regular business hours and one of our kind and friendly personal shoppers will help you navigate through our website, help conduct advanced searches, help you choose the item you are looking for with the specifications you are seeking, read you the specifications of any item and consult with you about the products themselves. There is no charge for the help of this personal shopper for anyone with a disability. Finally, your personal shopper will explain our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, and help you place an order if you so desire.

As more people make the switch to working from home instead of commuting to an office, we’re finding a lot of customers are visiting The Warehouse at Huck Finn to design their custom home office.

A home office is your opportunity to create a space that functions well for you and is comfortable. You can design the space to reflect your own personality while still being an efficient environment for getting work done.

Before you begin designing your custom home office, ask yourself these questions:

  • What will you be doing in the space?
  • What type of work needs to be done?
  • Will external clients be visiting the space?
  • Will colleagues visit for collaborative work?
  • What type of materials will be referenced and/or stored?
  • What type of equipment is required?

Knowing the answers to these questions will guide you in the right direction and help you create a home office that works for you.

Choosing the Right Furniture for Your Home Office

Before you go to pick out furniture, measure your space so you know how much room you have to work with. If your room is on the smaller side, a large desk, bookshelves, and a separate filing cabinet can make the space feel crowded. Instead, you may want to choose a desk with a built-in filing cabinet and then install shelving to make use of the wall space.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, you may be working with a large space, such as a third-floor bonus room or a finished area in your basement. If this is the case, an armchair or two with an end table can fill the room nicely while still feeling appropriate in a home office.

Once you’ve measured your office and have an idea of what you’ll need, it’s time to pick out furniture.

The Desk

How much desk storage you think you’ll need will help you determine which desk to buy. If you’re looking to hide office supplies, files, and your CPU tower behind drawers and cabinets you’ll want to look for a larger desk with multiple drawers or a hutch. If your style leans more modern, a simpler desk with clean lines may be exactly what you’re after.

An l-shaped desk provides the most amount of surface space to spread out and work. If you tend to surround yourself with files and supplies, an l-shaped desk may work best for you. Many styles offer ample storage as well, meaning you’ll have a place to put all those papers once the workday is done.

A lot of desks now include tech features to keep you connected and organized. Built-in USB ports allow for easy charging of your phone, tablet, or watch while grommet holes for cord access keep the space looking neat and tidy.

The Chair

The different types of office chairs are endless. From executive style chairs to more minimal designs, you’re bound to find the perfect chair for your home office. When picking out your chair make sure you choose one that is adjustable, offers good support, and is comfortable to sit in for long periods of time. Nothing is worse than a chair that causes back pain after only an hour of use.

Storage

Storage in an office is critical. There never seems to be enough space to keep a printer, phone, important files, and various office supplies, in addition to room to display trinkets and décor. Many home office furniture connections include multiple different bookshelves, hutches and filing cabinets that can be mixed and matched.

We find that many of our customers choose this option when designing their custom home office as it allows them to create a space that functions best for them. Multiple bookshelves can be set up side by side for maximum storage or a hutch can be placed on top of a desk for convenient access to frequently used items. The combinations are endless!
